On Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Dr. James “Tim” Barry, president of Alderson Broaddus University, kicked-off a year-long celebration of AB’s 150th anniversary. During the press conference, students, faculty, and staff gathered in Burbick Hall to celebrate the University’s 150th anniversary.
“We teach, we learn, and we prepare,” said President Dr. Tim Barry. “All through the years, AB has stood for innovation and quality. Our 149 years says a great deal about the resilience, the belief not only in our Baptist tradition but also our liberal art’s roots which our predecessors used as the foundation of our institution.”
In conjunction with AB’s fourth annual Giving Day celebration, the press conference featured remarks from Dr. Barry that honored the University’s past, engaged the students in the present, and excited people about the future of Alderson Broaddus.
“I reflect on the rich history of our higher education institution and the importance it has played in countless lives and think, ‘What would be the stories our alumni could tell us about those 149 years?’ I look forward to answering that question,” said Dr. Barry.
To commemorate its Sesquicentennial, AB plans to host a series of symposia and events reflecting on its 150 years of continued excellence in West Virginia and the University’s future. Throughout the next year, AB will explore and celebrate the past via social media, various publications, events, and conferences.
