Ranked in top 100 Most Affordable Small Colleges East of the Mississippi by Great Value Colleges
PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Great Value Colleges has named Alderson Broaddus University in the top 100 Most Affordable Small Colleges East of the Mississippi. AB is the only North Central West Virginia School on the list.
Alderson Broaddus University implemented an affordability initiative in July 2011 under Dr. Richard Creehan, president of Alderson Broaddus University, which included a tuition and comprehensive fees freeze through 2015. It also restructured time-to-degree completion, helping students earn a four-year degree in four years. The financial aid office helped by capping student loans, decreasing the amount of debt the average college student inherits after graduation.
“At Alderson Broaddus we realize each student’s financial situation and resources are unique,” said Dr. Creehan. “We make every effort to help students afford a college education. In fact, 99% of our students receive financial aid. To be named as one of the top 100 schools East of the Mississippi, not to mention the only institution in North Central West Virginia, is an indicator that AB students can receive a high quality education that is also affordable.”
Creehan also stated the recognition demonstrates that the leaders in higher education rankings are taking notice of Alderson Broaddus University’s financial aid program, and how the school is putting the cost of attending within students’ reach across the nation.
Great Value Colleges is a premier website for finding the best degree for students, helping determine the top place to get their degree, and providing resources for career options after graduation.
Their mission is to help students get the best possible education for their money. They seek to accomplish this through high-quality, researched-based articles and rankings covering a broad number of angles so as to help the most students possible.
According to their website at www.greatvaluecolleges.net, for this particular ranking, Great Value Colleges limited their selection to small schools (4,000 students or less) East of the Mississippi. There were thousands of schools that fit this criteria before eliminating all but traditional, four-year schools.
They then took on the task of separating this list by location and determining if the colleges lay East or West of the Mississippi River. There are more than 400 qualifying colleges in the Eastern portion of the United States, and after information about each school’s net price was collected, they sorted the list accordingly to determine the 100 most affordable universities.
