The Alderson Broaddus University (AB) Board of Trustees has announced that Andrea J. Bucklew has assumed the role of interim president. Outgoing President James “Tim” Barry has accelerated his planned June 30 retirement to provide Dr. Bucklew additional time to prepare for the University’s 153rd academic year. Dr. Barry has served as AB’s president since December 2015.
Dr. Bucklew, who is a tenured professor in criminal justice, has served the institution in a variety of leadership roles, which include the following: dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (2013-2016), associate provost (2016-2020), and as provost and executive vice president since 2020.
“We couldn’t be more pleased than to have Dr. Bucklew step into her role as interim president; she is a proven leader and given her tenure with AB, she understands not only higher education in general but AB in particular,” expressed AB Board Chair Dr. Rebecca A. Hooman. “She is well-respected and will serve AB well as we move forward in this challenging time in the higher education industry.”
The entire AB campus community wishes the best for Dr. and Mrs. Barry as they transition to retirement.
