Most Registrar services are available online through the MyAB portal. For questions not answered below, contact the Registrar at [email protected] or (304) 457-6210.
Official transcripts are available through Parchment, our secure transcript partner. Unofficial transcripts can be downloaded from MyAB at no cost. Standard processing is 3–5 business days; expedited (24-hour) options are available for $15. Transcripts can be sent electronically or as sealed paper documents.
Registration windows open by class standing. Returning students may register beginning the second Monday of November for spring and the second Monday of April for fall (seniors first, then juniors, sophomores, freshmen). New first-year students register at orientation; transfer students register following advising sessions in late summer.
Students may add or drop courses without academic penalty during the first week of any semester (the "Add/Drop period"). After that, courses dropped will appear with a "W" on the transcript through the tenth week. After the tenth week, withdrawal requires a petition to the Provost. Students may also change credit (audit, pass/fail) during Add/Drop.
Run a degree audit any time in MyAB. Apply for graduation by November 1 for spring graduates or April 1 for winter graduates. Each application is reviewed by the Registrar and confirmed in writing. Graduates not yet on track will be contacted to discuss remaining requirements.
Submit official transcripts from prior institutions to [email protected]. Evaluations are typically completed within 10 business days. Up to 90 transfer credits may be applied to a bachelor's degree. AB has articulation agreements with WV Northern, Pierpont, Fairmont State, BridgeValley, and Glenville State that pre-approve specific course equivalencies.
Alderson Broaddus complies fully with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Students may grant proxy access to parents or guardians through MyAB's "Parent Portal," allowing them to view grades, billing, and financial aid. Without explicit consent, faculty and staff may not discuss specific records with anyone other than the student.
First-year students declare an intended major during orientation; declared majors can be changed at any time using the Major Declaration form. Some programs (Nursing, MPAS, MSAT, Education) have additional admission requirements beyond simply declaring; consult the program for details.
Independent study (course numbered 499) requires a faculty sponsor, a learning contract, and approval from the department chair and the Dean of the relevant school. Up to 12 credits of independent study may apply to a bachelor's degree. Petition forms in MyAB or Burbick Hall 220.
The National Student Clearinghouse provides immediate online enrollment verification for AB students. For specific letters (insurance, scholarship), contact the Registrar; processing takes 3 business days.
Students must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA for good academic standing. GPAs below 2.0 trigger academic probation, with notification from the Provost and required academic-coaching sessions. Three consecutive semesters of probation may result in academic dismissal; students may petition for reinstatement after one semester away.
