Faculty & Staff
Mrs. Karen Dunkerley, Assistant Professor of Education, began teaching at Alderson-Broaddus College in the fall of 2008. She also serves as the faculty sponsor for the Student Education Association (SEA), the supervisor for student teachers, and as the liaison between local schools and college.
Professor Dunkerley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education with a Vocal Emphasis from West Virginia University and a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education, also from West Virginia University. In addition, she has accrued 60+ hours of graduate work at WVU, WV College of Graduate Studies, and Fairmont State University, and is currently in the process of completing her portfolio for admission to the Curriculum Design and Technology program at WVU.
Her current teacher certifications include Music Education, Elementary Education, Developmental Reading (Permanent Authorization), and Remedial Reading (Permanent Authorization).
Prior to joining the faculty at A-B, Mrs. Dunkerley served as a teacher in several counties throughout West Virginia, as well as the GEAR UP and Reading First Projects Director for Tucker County Schools in Parsons, WV.
She is a also a member of the following professional associations: West Virginia Education Association, National Education Association, West Virginia Reading Association, International Reading Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Delta Kappa, and the National Network of Partnership Schools.
She was awarded a teaching fellowship at The Frank and Jane Gabor Folklife Center at Fairmont State University during the summer 2003, and at The West Virginia Writing Project in 1985 and 1987.
