403 new students set to join the Battler Family

PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Alderson Broaddus University is eager to welcome its newest members of the Battler Family as 403 new students move-in on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014.

“The momentum of ABU is still going strong,” said Andrew Spohn, vice president for enrollment management. “We are excited that after 52 weeks of recruiting, the class of 2018 will finally be on campus in 10 days.”

Freshmen and transfer students move-in during the morning of Aug. 23, and begin orientation activities in the afternoon. An introduction ceremony, the first formal academic service for the incoming class, will be held in Rex Pyles Arena at 5 p.m. in front of parents, faculty, and staff.  University officials will ceremonially move students from admissions to academic affairs as they begin their college journey.

On Sunday, Aug. 24, all 403 new students will travel to ACE Adventure Resort in Oak Hill, W.Va. for a day of fun; a tradition that began in 2012. They will participate in outdoor activities such as white water rafting, zip lining, rock climbing, obstacle and rope courses, and biking. The day is designed for students to meet, make friends, and enjoy the vast activities West Virginia has to offer.

Orientation will continue on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 25 & 26, with workshops, academic advising, fun activities, a job fair, and a midnight shopping trip to Wal Mart. Classes for the fall semester begin on Wednesday, Aug. 27 and all freshmen and upperclassmen are invited to attend the All Student Kickoff Banquet in Heiner Dining Hall from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
