The Alderson Broaddus University debate team tied for first place with Marshall University at the West Virginia Intercollegiate Forensics Assotion (WVIFA)
state championships held at West Liberty University.  

Hilary McConnell, a senior political science major from Preston
County, WV, advanced through four rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals
and the final
round of debate to place second overall.

The team managed to tie with Marshall because of their 10 wins in debate
overall by team mates D’Laontie Lewis, a senior communications major from Dunbar,
WV, Shaunna Miller, a senior nursing major from Beverly, WV, and Derek Brown , a senior communications major from Philippi, WV.

Lewis placed second in overall speaker points and Brown placed third.

Also competing in debate were Shepherd University, Fairmont University,
WVU-P, and West Liberty University.
