ALDERSON-BROADDUS TO HOST PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT STUDIES PROGRAM OPEN HOUSE
Forbes ranks profession #1 advanced degree
PHILIPPI, W.Va. – Alderson-Broaddus College will host an open house for all interested students and their families to gain information on its Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies Program on Saturday, Oct. 22.
The event will take place in Myers Hall of Health Sciences on the College campus from 10:00 A.M - 2:00 P.M. with check-in starting at 9:45A.M.
Forbes recently ranked a physician’s assistant degree as the number one advanced degree in the country.
According to the article, “Forbes set out to determine which master’s degrees would provide the best long-term opportunities, based on salary and employment outlook. To find the mid-career median pay for 35 popular degrees, we turned to Payscale.com, which lets users compare their salaries with those of other people in similar jobs by culling real-time salary data from its 16.5 million profiles.”
"A physician assistant is a health professional who exists primarily to aid physicians in the care of patients, who work directly under the orders and supervision of a physician, and whose medical role is necessitated by the fact that patient loads are potentially too great for physicians to accommodate with the competent aid of adequately trained assistants."
The above definition of a Physician Assistant is but one definition, and one given by the Committee on Curriculum Development at Alderson-Broaddus College when the College was developing its Physician Assistant study program in the late 1960s. As one of the leaders in the program development of educating PAs, A-B College is still dedicated to preparing Physician Assistants for work in doctors' offices, clinics and hospitals in West Virginia, around the country, and around the world.
With new, state-of-the art training facilities, and outstanding and well-trained faculty, students receive an excellent education in the Physician Assistant Studies Program at A-B College.
According to the Forbes article, a Physician Assistant mid-career median pay exceeds $100,000. Another advantage of a Physician’s Assistant degree: employment opportunities are expected to grow 39% by 2018 (from the 2008 employment numbers), according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
