Marilyn Zrust, MSN, RN, EdD began her career at Alderson Broaddus University on July 1, 2013 as the Chair of the School of Nursing. Dr. Zrust has 34 years of experience as a registered nurse and 23 years of experience in the field of nursing education. Her experience as a nurse includes being one of the original nurses to work in the first trauma unit in Western PA. Additionally, Dr. Zrust was an emergency department nurse for nearly a decade and was also an off-shift whole house supervisor of a 120 bed hospital. In the field of nursing education, Dr. Zrust has taught in two baccalaureate programs, an associate degree program, and two diploma programs and one LPN Vo-tech program, and has taught medical surgical nursing, critical care, pediatrics, obstetrics and community health in both the clinical and didactic settings.
Dr. Zrust completed her doctorate in the discipline of Higher Education Management at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. The title of her dissertation is Human Capital Assessment Indicators as Influential Determinants Pertaining to the Admission Criteria Utilized by Pre-licensure Programs for Nursing Education.
Dr. Zrust is currently the president of District 6 Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA), and has served as the president-elect for the years of 2011 and 2012. Additionally, Dr. Zrust is the West Coordinator of the Political Action Committee for the statewide PSNA. Dr. Zrust maintains current clinical nursing practice by working for a staffing agency in the Pittsburgh area.
