President’s Message
Alderson-Broaddus
College was recently evaluated by a team of educational professionals
representing the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central
Association of Colleges and Schools. Calling our college “a
treasure tucked away in the hills of Philippi,” the team
concluded their report in words that should resonate with every
person who has ever been affiliated with Alderson-Broaddus as a
student, faculty member, alumnus/alumna, parent, administrator,
trustee, or friend:
“ A-B is worthy of its purpose for existence.
Its goal of providing life changing educational opportunities to
many first generation students in Appalachia serves the common
good of West Virginia and the surrounding area… The region
needs this college to succeed with its mission of hope for a new
life made possible in part by higher education.”
I struggle to find a more profound way of describing
this caring community of excellence, or of expressing both faith
in our mission and pride in all we have accomplished so far. This
is why we launch Renewing the Promise: the Campaign for Alderson-Broaddus,
and ask for support to raise our programs, our facilities, and
our endowment to new heights—heights that will create a dynamic
future for Alderson-Broaddus College and our most important constituents,
our students.
If you believe Alderson-Broaddus contributed in
some way to your success, or if it enriched your life somehow,
please consider the good you can do by pledging your support to
our Campaign. With your help and your prayers, we truly can renew
our promise to future generations.
Stephen E. Markwood, Ed.D.
