Why Play Baseball At A-B?

Here's why we play here...

During the fall of 2005, we asked our players to name their top reasons for being baseball student-athletes at Alderson-Broaddus College.  Our first year theme, "Why Not Now," is not only our vision for becoming the most improved NCAA Division II baseball team in the nation in 2006, but also the philosophy our young men share in their pursuit of becoming academic trendsetters on campus.  The Battlers' goal is to CHASE PERFECTION, on and off the field!

Top Reasons

  • We possess great team chemistry.  Some players call it a brotherhood.  Our players do things together, both on and off campus.
  • We play NCAA Division II baseball in the high profile, 15-member West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
  • We have great facilities, both our ballpark and indoor athletic complex.  Facilities reflect the commitment to a program.
Our training and weight rooms are larger and better equipped than some Division I schools.
  • A 13:1 student to teacher ratio guarantees that you will receive individualized instruction in your classes.
  • We get to take the classes we want, usually when we want them.
  • We go to school at a residential campus, and our apartment and suite-style housing accommodations are better than traditional residence halls found at most colleges.
  • People on campus and in the community will take a genuine interest in you as a human being.
  • Our athletes, coaches, and support staff pull from the same end.
  • We want to have the best overall athletic program in our conference.
  • The food in Philippi, the site of the first land battle of the United States' Civil War, is great, and cheap!
  • We are recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a top institution of higher learning.
  • We live in north central West Virginia, where we can golf, fish, swim, hunt, and ski - ALL in the same day.
  • We are wanted and needed here!
