Alumni Responsibilities

Your responsibilities as an alumnus of Alderson-Broaddus College include:

Communication

Let us know where you are so we can send you publications, notices of regional events and reunions, and keep your record up-to-date. Also, share your alumni news with us so we can keep you in touch with your classmates. Send information to Sandra Wyatt, alumni relations office secretary, Ph. 304.457.6202, for inclusion in publications.

Volunteer

Many college events such as class reunions and regional events would not be possible if it were not for alumni volunteers. Writing letters to your classmates and calling alumni that live in your area are just couple of the ways you may volunteer your time and talents. Please contact Sandra Wyatt, alumni relations office secretary, if you are interested in volunteering your time.

Support

As mentioned, Alderson-Broaddus College provides you with several alumni services. These programs do cost money, however. As you know, it is expensive to operate a college, and tuition alone does not pay the entire cost of a college education. The Annual Fund, often called the Alumni Fund, assists A-B in meeting the annual operating costs of the College.

The Annual Fund supports scholarships, faculty and staff salaries, maintenance of campus facilities, and help finance students services such as the student union. Without the Annual Fund, attending college may have been impossible for many A-B students. Your alumni predecessors literally helped make it possible for you to be a student. Now, as alumni, the challenge is passed on to you.

The Annual Fund is "unrestricted" giving, which means it can be used wherever it is needed, however you can restrict your contributions to a specific scholarship or department at the College.

Some companies have a "Matching Gift" program, which will match, double, or even triple your annual gift to the College with one of their own. You can contact the personnel office at your company to see how your gift may be increases.

Once a year, you will be receiving a call from students or staff during our annual phonathon. They will ask you to make a pledge toward the Annual Fund and also give you an opportunity to ask questions about the College or pass along alumni notes. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet current students on the phone.  Whether you pledge or not, do not hang up. Use the opportunity to learn and reminisce.

More than two centuries ago, Samuel Johnson said that "The future is purchased by the present." Time has proven over and over the wisdom of Johnson's advice, and you can continue to ensure the future for Alderson-Broaddus College.

Recommending Students

Another special means of support is to recommend potential students to Alderson-Broaddus. Spreading the good word about A-B is another simple, yet invaluable gesture of support.

To recommend a student, please contact the Admissions Office at 304.457.2656 or 1.800.263.1549.
