Keeping In Touch You will receive copies of College publications including the A-B Times. The publications will keep you up-to-date with your alumni friends, what's happening on campus with students and faculty, and decisions of the Board of Trustees. The publications are mailed to you as a service of the College. The A-B Times includes a "Class Notes" section. This service provides you a way to inform other alumni of your accomplishments, address changes, births of children, and other information you might like to share. Please contact Sandra Wyatt, alumni relations office secretary, Ph. 304.457.6202, if you have information you would like to include. Reunions As you may already know, A-B Alumni celebrate quinquennial (5-year) reunions on campus at our annual Homecoming, held each year the second weekend in October. It's a great time to return to campus and reminisce with old friends. Other "group" reunions are held each Homecoming as well. Awards The Alumni Council annually grants Distinguished Alumni Awards, Alumni Achievement Awards, and the Young Alumni Award to outstanding A-B graduates. These awards are presented at the Alumni Banquet during Homecoming. Any alumnus may nominate another alumnus for these awards. Distinguished Alumni Awards are presented for outstanding service to the College. Alumni Achievement Awards are presented for outstanding career accomplishments. The Young Alumni Award is presented to an alumnus who has graduated within the last ten years and has made outstanding career accomplishments within that time. If you would like to nominate an alumnus for an award, contact Sandra Wyatt, alumni relations office secretary, Ph. 304.457.6202. Directories Every five years, the Alumni Relations Office, publishes an Alumni Directory. The directory lists the name, college major, additional degrees earned, current home and business address, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of all alumni who return the questionnaire sent to them. Directories are then made available to alumni by the publishing company. These directories are for the purpose of helping our alumni keep in closer touch with their classmates. A directory was last released in August of 2006, and the next one is scheduled for 2011. Records The College keeps many records for you as Alumni. The Registrar keeps your transcripts. The Placement Office keeps your college references on file. When sending the resume to prospective employers, you need only list "References on file in Placement Office of Alderson-Broaddus College." Your prospective employers may then check all of the references you have listed here. Networking is another valuable aspect of the Placement Office. If you have word of a job opening, drop a note to or call the Placement Office. This information will be passed on to students and alumni who may be interested. Also, if you are looking for a new job, contact Cindy Wanamaker, director of student development, Ph. 304.457.6213, or Sandra Wyatt, alumni relations office secretary, Ph. 304.457.6202. We can then pass this information on to other alumni. The Alumni Relations Office keeps your alumni records. These are kept up-to-date as you keep in touch with the College. Send a change of address to the Alumni Relations Office whenever you move. Drop us a note if you get married, have a baby, get a new job, etc. As noted previously, we can then share your news in the A-B Times. If you have information you'd like to share click here |
