Thank you for visiting Alderson Broaddus University’s (ABU) website. I encourage you to look at the many wonderful attributes of ABU, beginning with the incredible education we offer, along with the diverse opportunities available — opportunities that extend outside the classroom and include all the abundance of activities that this beautiful residential university offers.

I challenge every Alderson Broaddus University student to get involved outside of the classroom – athletics, intramurals, the arts, Greek life, student government, newspaper – just to name a few.

In my four years of service to ABU, we have witnessed dramatic change, growth, and prosperity. Our original goal from the university strategic plan was to grow to 1,000 students and we have surpassed that in record time. As we move forward, writing the next chapter in the history of Alderson Broaddus, we are dedicated to maintaining the core of our mission and the way we live it out. We also recognize the need to preserve our history, while acknowledging the need for some changes to ensure a prosperous future.

The English writer Anthony Burgess once said, “It’s always good to remember where you come from and celebrate it. To remember where you come from is part of where you’re going.”

To know where we are going as an institution, we must first honor our heritage and understand where we came from. In 1932, when the two Baptist colleges merged, there was no more significant or impactful time in our history, until now. On June 27, 2013, I had the highest honor and privilege to sign the official documents that transitioned Alderson-Broaddus College to university status. Since then we have restructured the University’s academics, and continue to research and add new undergraduate and graduate programs.

In the past 24 months, we have invested $30 million into new buildings including a renovated campus center and dining hall, new labs and lecture halls, four new residence halls offering suite and apartment style living, and a brand new multi-sport performance stadium.

But we have only just begun. We will next turn our attention to refurbishing two academic spaces of over 97,000 square feet for state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

To truly appreciate the wonderful transformation of Alderson Broaddus University, I encourage you to take a take a journey across our picturesque campus, nestled in the hills of West Virginia, via our virtual tour by clicking here. Though the tour is a great tool to show you what our campus has to offer, there is no better way to experience ABU than by doing so in person. You will be able to see our facilities first-hand, and meet the wonderful people that make our campus so special.

Thanks again for visiting our website. I encourage you to look around and stay longer than you expected. I hope to see you on campus soon, and look forward to welcoming you to the Battler Family.

You’ll find Alderson Broaddus University is truly incredible in more ways than one.
